Google Confirms Update To Core Algorithm

Last weekend there was a lot of chatter online from SEOs about rankings fluctuations (see Webmaster World and the Google Webmaster Central Help Forum). AND unlike many updates, Google have actually confirmed this one!

Some thought this might be a reversal or large change to the update in mid-December last year which was dubbed ‘Maccabees’. We reported on that in the December 2017 Digital Digest. Danny Sulivan (Google’s Search Liaison’) shot this down on Twitter. Click on the embed below to read the entire feed which is quite interesting.

He also stated that, “We released several minor improvements during this timeframe, part of our regular and routine efforts to improve relevancy.”

What should I do if my rankings have dropped?

We haven’t noticed any of our clients drop, or major sites in NZ but if you have some negative affects on your site there’s not much you can do (according to the Search Engine).

‘”There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well other than to remain focused on building great content,” Google said. So wait it out and improve your overall site and “over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages,” Google has stated.

If you have been hit by this update or need help with rankings recovery, give the team at Results First a call on 0800 878 833 and we can help!
